President Museveni has pledged to construct larger dams in Napak District to tackle the persistent water shortages affecting both residents and livestock, citing the district’s agricultural potential.

Speaking at the conclusion of his campaign tour in the Karamoja sub-region, Museveni said Napak could become a food basket for the region if water scarcity is resolved.

“Napak has fertile soils and hard-working people. What is missing is enough water for irrigation and livestock. We are going to build bigger dams to end this problem once and for all,” the President said.

Napak already hosts one of Karamoja’s successful water projects, the Arecek Dam in Lorengechora Sub-county, built at a cost of Shs12.3 billion.

The dam supplies water for domestic use and livestock, and Museveni said similar projects would be replicated throughout the district.

Ahead of his visit, local leaders, including Woman MP Faith Nakut and NRM District Chairperson Mark Longole, mobilized residents to welcome the President in large numbers.

Napak also hosts the Presidential Skilling Hub for Karamoja Youth, a flagship initiative equipping young people with practical skills for employment and enterprise development. During the rally in Kotido, Museveni viewed products made by former trainees, including leather shoes, tailored garments, and carpentry items.

In addition to water projects, the President pledged to upgrade health facilities in Napak, including hospitals, to ensure better access to medical services for residents.

Museveni’s rally in Napak marked the end of his campaign tour in the Karamoja sub-region before he proceeded to Kapelebyong District in Teso, continuing his nationwide campaign ahead of the 2026 general elections.
